Bertold, F, Florence, United States of America, Civilian, Laboratory worker

Florence Bertold (Left) age 21 is the head of an important group of workers in the Metallurgical Laboratory of a large American steel Industry in the Easton state of New York. The Laboratory is entirely staffed by women who test the steel samples of war weapons for strength, density and other qualities. They must move heavy steel billets weighing 60 to 80 pounds around the plant, which operates 24 hours every day on three shifts.
